Zoya Color Spoons ~ Pictures & Review

Good evening!!!  How are you, my lovelies??  If you'll remember my post about Zoya's new Color Spoons, I said I would post once I received them.  I received them a few days ago, and oh my Jonas they are exquisite!!  Without further ado, I'll share the visual goodness with you!!

I Must warn you, this will be a picture heavy post.  But I have to show you these colors' deliciousness.

The following pictures are of the actual spoons on my middle finger.  They are perfect for seeing how a particular color will look with your skin tone.

What do you think of the colors I chose??  I chose all of the colors from the Reverie collection (Laney, Reece, Happi, Gwin, Adina, Lana) because that one is my favorite.  Which of these colors is YOUR favorite?  Will you be ordering some Color Spoons?  Tell me in the comments!!

I Hate To See Her Go....

Today is the day that I know a lot of you, and myself, have been waiting for.  Miss K will be re-opening her doors today at approximately between 1pm & 5pm EST.  Her final clearance of ALL remaining stock & inventory.  I am so sad to see such an amazingly kind, warm & wonderful person leave the world of mineral makeup ~ she is a rare breed of talent.  I also understand her need for some semblance of a normal life without all of the drama she's had to endure, especially over the last year or so.  All of her eye colors, save for the Rocks!Glam Glitters & the Bete Femme glitters, will be just $4.  The Rocks! glitters will be $3 & the Bete Femme glitters will be $3.50.  For her two recently new collections, Ciao Italia & Lost In Faerie, those full sizes will be $5 with full sample sets marked down to $15.  Several of her best selling colors are either completely sold out or close to being sold out.  Get there early to ensure that you get what you really really want.

Absolutely Genius!!!!

Hello my lovelies!!  I know it's been a while since I've posted ~ I just haven't been feeling myself lately.  So sorry about that.
I know that I have mostly blogged about makeup, cosmetics & cosmetic related products.  You, gentle reader, know that I LOVE all things makeup.  But what you may not know is that I also have an intense love of nail polishes.  I'm not so much a fingernail polish girl, but more a toenail polish girl.  I love putting funky, bright & insane colors on my tootsies.  I don't think I have the most attractive feet, so anything I can do to pretty them up, I try.  On my fingernails, I mostly use OPI's Nail Envy & Nailtiques Nail Protein Formula #2.  I have the weakest most brittle fingernails & they constantly break, peel & crack.  So I'm adverse to wearing any color on fingers.  The Nail Envy & Nailtiques works pretty well in strengthening my nails & helping them grow to considerable (at least for me) lengths.  I layer these two over one another & I think it's the combination of the two that really works.
I've lately been obsessed with Zoya Nail Polishes.  I've never tried them & I don't own a single bottle of Zoya.  But I really really want to.  In looking at their website, I'm amazed at not only the range of colors they have, but the depth & originality of their colors.  Right now, I'm coveting their entire Reverie collection and several of their duochrome colors.  But in browsing on their site tonite....I came upon an entirely new idea in purchasing polishes.  Zoya has come up with what they call "Color Spoons".  Here is what their website says about this innovative item:

What's a Zoya Color Spoon?

Zoya Color Spoons are clear plastic, spoon shaped devices with actual nail polish poured in the nail shaped tip. Before you order a bottle of a color you are not sure of, order a color spoon of that color instead. You can order as many (or as few) colors as you would like. When you receive the Zoya Color Spoons, simply hold them up to your nails and see what the actual color will look like on your nails as though you applied 2 coats and a clear top coat. You never have to worry about ordering the wrong color again.
Genius, right?!?!  I've ordered several of these color spoons & once I receive them, I will take pictures & review them here.  The cool thing about ordering these spoons is this (once again, taken from Zoya's website):
So how much are the Zoya Color Spoons?  Well they are basically FREE. When you place an order for Zoya Color Spoons you are charged $0.50 per spoon, but as soon as your order is invoiced and ships you will receive an email with a personalized promo code for a discount in the amount equal to the amount you spent on spoons to be taken against you next order. You can use your coupon code towards the purchase of the real color you want to buy or any merchandise on our websites. You can even use it to buy additional color spoons.

How awesome is that!  Are you dying for these?  What do you think of this concept?  Does this make you want to order from Zoya?  Let me know in the comments!!!

Now, go to the website & snatch some up for yourself!!

XOXO,
me

I'm Seriously Lagging

Sorry my lovely readers, for not having posted anything for a few days.  I've been busy with the Grandpa situation & the weather in sunny San Diego has cooled down & the barometric pressure has dropped which leaves me in a great deal of pain.  It's just weird how things I love, like cooler weather, wreak havoc on my system because of the fibro.  I though today I would show colors & swatches from my Fyrinnae haul.  This company is run by the most amazing gentlemen & they have some of the most amazing colors in the business!!  I know there are so many bloggers who have reviewed Fyrinnae, so I won't bore you with the details.  However, I must tell you, if you haven't tried them, head on over to their website & place an order RIGHT NOW!!  Without any further ado, here are the pictures (all swatches are over Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy):

These were all samples purchased by me ~ their sample sizes are very generous.  What do you think of these?  Have they influenced your decision one way or the other??  Let me know in the comments!!!

It's A Bare Sunshine Day

Oh, it's been a crazy week.  I've been physically & mentally wrapped up in my Grandpa & his health and living situation that I haven't had much time to blog.  I'm so sorry about that, gentle Reader.  But I haven't forgotten about you.  As far as my Grandpa is concerned, in case you were interested, his prostate cancer has returned & has spread to his bones.  It was also discovered that he has Parkinson's Disease, but only in his lower body and it's affecting his swallowing, hence the feeding tube in this picture.  The family & his doctors are having a meeting Tuesday morning (my mom, me, my aunt Annie & my aunt Susan) to discuss discharge plans, diagnoses & care.  I am just beside myself with joy to see that my old Grandpa is back.  My mom spent all day Friday with him, which God orchestrated, and it was so healing for her.  I think God is using this to heal the Dober women & heal our relationships with each other, with Grandpa and to teach us to forgive.  It's a powerful lesson, but one that I embrace whole-heartedly.
Now, on to the pretties.....
I came across a comment recently that I don't use Bare Escentuals in my looks except for their eye primer.  I had shared the link for my blog with Leslie Blodgett on Facebook, and someone posted that she had looked through the posts but didn't see anything BE related except for the primer.  Are you kidding me??  I have several LOTDs with something BE (and not just the primer) & I just kinda got my feelings hurt.  So, in answer to that comment, I would like to present.....

Face:

  • Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation in Fair
  • Makeup Forever HD High Definition Powder
  • Bare Escentuals Blush in First Class
  • Bare Escentuals Rose Radiance over First Class
  • Smashbox Brow Tech Wax Pencil & Brunette/Taupe combo

All yellow with accents of green ~ don't you love it!!

Eyes:

  • Bare Escentuals Eye Primer in Original & Brightening mix (I've been applying my eye primer with a brush lately.  I think it helps it apply more evenly)
  • Bare Escentuals Lemonade applied lashline to browbone
  • Bare Escentuals Sundress applied to the inner corners & tearducts
  • Bare Escentuals Trophy Wife applied to middle lid lash to browbone & blended into Sundress
  • Bare Escentuals Key Lime applied to crease & outer vee
  • Bare Escentuals Envy applied under Key Lime to outer third of lid & blended into Trophy Wife & Key Lime

For liner, I borrowed an idea from my friend Kesha over at her blog.  I applied Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Cream eye liner in Green from the Green Eyes kit on upper & lower lash lines.  I then took Bare Escentuals Big & Bright eyeliner in Granite to line my upper & lower waterlines.  I really liked how it made the green pop against the charcoal.  I also love love love how it makes the whites of my eyes noticeably brighter.  On my lashes, I used Cargo Lash Activator as a base coat, then layered Clinique High Impact Curling mascara over it.

What do you think??  I forget how much I love yellows & really need to use them more.  What are your favorite colors to wear that you sometimes forget about?  Let me know in the comments!!

XOXO,
me

Bouncing Faith in Trees - A Love Story

Hello hello my lovelies!!  Can I talk to you for a minute??  It's about my Grandpa.  See, I lost my Gram, his wife, my mom's mom, in May of 2008.  It was one of the hardest things I've ever gone thru because I was very close to my Gram.  But I can't even imagine what it must have been like for him.  See, Gram & Grandpa did not meet & fall in love under the best of circumstances and a lot of people got hurt.  But they were soulmates from the gate.  My Gram was very artistic ~ a painter, a sculptor, a cross-stitcher, a doll maker ~ and my Grandpa was very good with his hands & was a hard worker.  Gram was one of those women who spoke her mind and was strong & what my family likes to call a bold-hussy (which is a good term).  She didn't take any guff from anyone.  She taught me so much.  But, so did my Grandpa.  Grandpa was loving and nurturing and sensitive.  I mean, my Gram was loving too but in her own way.  I think I get my sensitivity from my Grandpa.  Alas, I digress.  I can't imagine how hard it was for him to lose her.  She was the love of his life, and he was hers.  Since that time, his health has steadily declined and he's stopped eating, bathing & basically sleeps all day.  What do you do when you lose your soulmate??  Then, in 2009, Grandpa's son, Norman, passed away.  Also in that same year, my Aunt Susan lost both of her sons - Grandpa's grandsons.  So, in a period of 15 months, my Grandpa lost 4 people he dearly loved.  And since depression runs in my family, you can imagine the dark hole that he slipped into.  I think he gave up & was slowly killing himself.  And it was hard to watch.  But fast forward to last Monday, when he was admitted to the hospital after the realization that he was indeed gravely ill & needed medical intervention.  It has since been discovered that his prostate cancer has returned & has spread, he can't swallow at all & his kidneys are failing.  Through this all, he is the Grandpa that I remember him as.  Talking, laughing, smiling, flirting with the nurses.....he has some hard decisions to make about his future, but whatever those decisions are, he knows that we (the Dober girls) have his back & will do whatever it takes to make his remaining years comfortable & enjoyable.

So, in honor of Gram & Grandpa, here is my LOTD......

Face:

  • Moisturize as usual
  • Benefit "That Gal" primer
  • Meow Pampered Puss foundation in Sleek Chausie
  • Aromaleigh Ultra-Resolution Finishing Powder in Peaches&Cream
  • BE Vintage Peach Blush
  • Smashbox Brow Tech Wax & Brunette/Taupe powder

Eyes:
  • BE Prime Time for Eyes lashline to browbone
  • BE Diamond Gossamer with BE Platinum Gossamer over it all over lid to brow
  • Hi-Fi Cosmetics Morbid Faith eye shadow inner third of lid & tear duct
  • Hi-Fi Cosmetics Suicide Trees eye shadow crease & outer vee
  • Hi-Fi Cosmetics Bounce eye shadow middle third of lid over iris

For mascara, I used my standbys ~ Cargo Lash Activator & Stila Convertible Mascara over the Cargo.  These two have become my go-tos lately.

Thanks for letting me ramble & muse ~ it feels better when I can talk about what's going on in my head.  And thanks for listening.

XOXO,
me

Do Ya Feel That Breeze?

Hello my lovelies!!!  I recently got some Aromaleigh samples of 3 collections and couldn't wait to slap some on mah eyeballs.  Did you hear did you hear?  Kristen has pushed back her reopening date to September 18th.  She had originally planned for September 9th, but is enjoying her much needed rest so decided to give herself & her devoted staff a couple more weeks.  She has also been twittering inventory counts for every single eye shadow she has in stock!!!  I've been checking it daily & making a list of the items/colors I want to buy.  She has marked all of the eye shadows down to $4!!!!  All of her sparkly goodness at an insane discount ~ I can barely contain my excitement!!  So in honor of that, I have an Aromaleigh LOTD for you today.

Face:
  • Normal moisturizing routine
  • CoverFX Brite Prep Brightening Foundation Primer (with SPF 50)
  • Meow Pampered Puss foundation in Sleek Chausie
  • Aromaleigh Ultra-Resolution Finishing Powder in Translucent
  • Bare Escentuals Tropical Radiance for blush
Eyes:
  • Brows - Smashbox Brow Tech Wax & color in Brunette/Taupe
  • Bare Escentuals Prime Time for Eyes lid to browbone
  • Aromaleigh "Sylph" lid to browbone (from the En Pointe collection)
  • Aromaleigh "Seed Pearl" inner third of lid (from the L'Orchidee collection)
  • Aromaleigh "Soul Takes Flight" crease & outer vee (from the Les Papillons collection)
  • Aromaleigh "Zephyr's Breeze" patted on middle third of lid (also from Les Papillons)

I also recently purchased a Sonia Kashuk ergonomic eye liner brush.  The tip (the ferrule) is bent at a 45 degree angle which is supposed to make lining so easy.  Let me tell you, it is!!!  I line like a pro now!!

I lined the top lid with Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Eyeliner in Black with green sparkles to complement Zephyr's Breeze in this look.  I also lined my upper & lower waterlines with Tarte Emphas'eyes Liner in Black.  As usual, the liner on the waterlines came off within the first hour, but the Physician's Formula eyeliner stayed on all day!
On my lashes I used Dior Exstase as a base coat & Stila Convertible Mascara on top & bottom lashes.

What do you think of today's look?  Are you planning on getting anything from Aromaleigh's final sale??
Let me know in the comments!!!!

XOXO,
me
